What is the importance of software testing?

Don't be fooled into thinking that software testing procedures are a waste of time and effort. Documented procedures for testing software must be in place before testing begins. Lack of software testing procedures or using procedures that are not clearly and completely defined often results in time delays and cost overruns; two things software marketers cannot afford, especially when staying ahead of the competition is crucial.

What is the demand for Software testers?

Software testing once considered as a low-end task and consigned to the background, is suddenly in the spotlight.

Demand for software testers is growing and leading software exporters are seeing growth from testing services revenue each quarter. The worldwide testing market is estimated at $13 billion. The global outsourcing testing market opportunity in the current year is said to be around $4.5 billion. The size of the testing market has quadrupled in the last 2 years with further upward growth projected over the next 10 years. Considering the growing demand for testing professionals, a rough estimate points out that UK and US alone needs about 4000 to 6000 testers for the year 2006 to 2008.
